Bio

Alex Morales is a multidisciplinary artist based in New Braunfels, TX, whose work delves into themes of memory, self-reflection, and identity. Inspired by stop-motion animation and installation art, she blends traditional printmaking with immersive techniques to bring her creations into dynamic, multidimensional spaces. Her pieces explore abstract imagery and vivid color, often capturing various stages of the work's evolution, while reflecting the complexities of personal experience. In her current practice, Alex is expanding into stop-motion films and experimenting with projection and installation, creating experiences that invite viewers to explore their own connections to memory and self. Artist Statement

I am an artist whose work resides in the intersection of stillness and motion—where memories, emotions, and music converge to create transformative visual experiences. My artistic practice is both stagnant and experimental, beginning with still images that are driven by the emotional undercurrents of music, memory, and mood. Each piece starts as an image—often printed through a range of techniques including Intaglio, relief, screenprinting, and Riso printing—before I begin to experiment with animation, breathing new life into each static moment.

The process I employ is an intuitive dance between media, where the once-still image transforms into a dynamic animation, almost like a living memory brought back to the surface. This transformation feels like an internal mirror, reflecting both the energy within the work and the emotional layers embedded in the creation. Some pieces remain as simple digital animations, while others evolve into multifaceted prints, created through digital stencils or a fusion of printmaking techniques. The journey of the piece, and the emotions it evokes, often dictates the final form it takes.

Recently, my exploration has expanded to include fabric and relief printing, incorporating new textures and dimensions into my work. This shift allows me to add life to my creations not only through digital animation but also through wearable art. I now experiment with translating my prints onto shirts, bandanas, and tote bags, giving my work a more intimate, everyday presence. By making my art wearable, I invite viewers to carry a piece of my emotional landscape with them, turning static imagery into something personal and interactive.

At the heart of my practice is a deep connection to personal experience. I create through the lens of emotion—each work is born from a place of intuition, reflecting how I process and interpret the world around me. Music plays an undeniable role in my work; I find resonance in lyrics and rhythms that echo my personal connections with others and the world. It’s through these melodies that I navigate my own self-discovery, and it is through them that my art finds its voice.

Who I am as a person is inseparable from who I am as an artist. I am someone who constantly creates, not only because it is my passion but because it is a way of processing the world and my place within it. Every piece I create is a reflection of my growth, both as an individual and as a creator. Over the past four years, especially during my time at Texas State University, I’ve gained a deeper respect for myself and my practice through reflection, discipline, and a relentless drive to evolve. Each lesson learned, whether through relationships, struggles, or moments of clarity, continues to shape my work and my worldview.

Ultimately, my art is a portal—a reflection of who I am and who I aspire to become. It is an ongoing journey, and with each piece, I evolve, experiment, and transform, just as I do in life. Through my work, I invite others to witness this process of transformation, to engage with the rawness of emotion, and to see a world through my eyes.
